What to Expect During the Move-In Process at The Cedars of Austin

Step-by-step support to help you feel at home from day one.

Moving into a senior living community is a big decision, and we understand it can come with mixed emotions. At The Cedars of Austin, our goal is to make the move-in process smooth, supportive, and even exciting. Whether you're moving in yourself or helping a loved one settle in, we’re here every step of the way to ensure you feel confident and cared for throughout the transition.

Step 1: Preparing for the Move

After selecting your apartment and completing the leasing process, our team will connect with you to begin planning your move. We’ll provide:

  • Guidance on downsizing and what to bring

  • Recommended local moving services, if needed

  • A personalized move-in checklist for Memory Care residents

  • An overview of services and what to expect the first week

If you have special needs or requests—such as help hanging photos or setting up technology—just let us know. We’re happy to help.

Step 2: Apartment Setup and Readiness

Prior to your move-in day, your new home will be cleaned, inspected, and ready to welcome you. We make sure:

  • All maintenance and housekeeping needs are handled before arrival

  • Any requested accommodations or modifications are completed

  • Your name is added to our community directory and mail system

You’re encouraged to bring personal touches—photos, furniture, cherished keepsakes—to make the space truly your own.

Step 3: Moving Day Welcome

When move-in day arrives, you’ll be greeted by friendly staff who are ready to lend a hand. We’ll help:

  • Coordinate elevator access and moving logistics

  • Provide a welcome packet with community information and contact numbers

  • Introduce you to our team members and answer any immediate questions

You’ll also receive your dining schedule, activity calendar, and instructions on how to access wellness services and emergency response systems.

Step 4: Orientation and Getting Settled

Within the first few days of your arrival, we’ll walk you through an orientation, so you feel confident navigating your new home. This includes:

  • A tour of the community spaces (dining, wellness, activity rooms, etc.)

  • Introductions to fellow residents and your Resident Move-In Buddy

  • Help signing up for activities or services you’re interested in

We know it takes time to settle in, so we encourage you to go at your own pace. There’s always someone nearby to lend support or answer questions.

Step 5: Post-Move-In Check-ins and Ongoing Support

Moving into a new home is a big transition, and we’re here to make it easier. From day one, we’ll be checking in regularly to ensure everything is going smoothly. For the first two weeks, you can expect daily visits to:

  • Make sure your apartment is working just the way it should

  • Support your adjustment to community life

  • Assist with any requests—from setting up your TV to finding the right club to join

Many residents and families find comfort in knowing they’re not alone in this process. We walk alongside you the entire way.

More Than a Move—It’s a Fresh Start
At The Cedars of Austin, moving in is more than changing addresses—it’s the beginning of a new chapter filled with peace of mind, companionship, and opportunities to thrive. We’re honored to be part of that journey.
